Suzanne is offering a four-week intermediate coloured pencil class in May but I won't be taking it, since I'll have to miss two of them. Instead, I registered for her watercolour pencil class which begins next week for four weeks. Then, no more classes until the fall! I'm looking forward to making some pieces on my own - from my own ideas.
So, I was just musing about why I do this blog. Mostly, making art is a solitary activity. Oh, I guess there are collaborative artists out there that mix it up with performance or whatever. But mostly, painting and drawing is something a person does alone. At least I do. Even in a class, we each work on our own thing. Unlike theatre or music, where performance is shared and the response is swift and immediate, my visual art-making is an internal communication and the creative output is usually some kind of 'thing'. I might share it with my family and then it'll get put into a portfolio case. And I don't see it again, sometimes for months. Hardly anyone else does either. I mean, I don't have enough original stuff to put on one wall, let alone show it in a gallery or somewhere, even if I knew how to go about doing that.
So, I made the blog. This is my art gallery. This is my virtual wall. This satisfies my desire to show my work, for now and until I really have something to show.
