February 9, 2011 - Here are the white pencil drawings I've made so far as a result of Suzanne Lamoreaux's class.
January 2, 2011 - Just a sample of some sketches I made over the holidays.... Bison skull, moose and mountain sheep at the museum, Mt. MacKay in Thunder Bay, a rusted out car (both from photos).
Dec. 26 - I made these two drawings back in October. Trying out coloured pencils. The pears was my first one. I like the focus and attention to detail that pencils require but it takes a long time. The apple drawing probably took about two hours.
Oct. 19 - I spent this past Sunday south of Beaumont with a few other sketch artists drawing bits of rural Alberta. Tried adding a bit of watercolour for the first time too. These two were fairly successful.
Sept. 14 - This is some of what I did on my summer vacation...
Aug 14 - A few pages from the sketch book
August 10 - Each of these are about 1" by 1.5" and took about 2 minutes to draw.
When in Thunder Bay, we spend time at the old family farm. The following four, except for the birdbath were done there. The birdbath is in my mother-in-law's back yard.
There's a wonderful place at the south end of Thunder Bay called Chippewa Park, right on Lake Superior. We spent an afternoon there and I managed to squeeze in some drawing time. In all the years I lived in Thunder Bay, I never once drew the iconic Sleeping Giant. I figured it was way past due. That's him on the right.
I drew the one on the left from my office window. I was taking a coffee break. Honest! The window box belongs to my neighbour and I just had to try drawing it.
These are impressions made at Elk Island on June 4. Just learning how to handle the pen and the marks it can make.
